Anyone know the Irish for 'dyer' , one who dyes cloth? My query relates to the origin of surnames

Note however that Irish surnames are rarely related to professions.

(There are exceptions Ó Dalaigh, Mac Gabhann, etc)

Sea: Dálach: duine a a bhíonn i nDáil Comhairle.

Tá sé ag Woulfe áit éigin.

Ó Dálaigh - "des. of Dálach (holding assemblies, frequenting assemblies)." (Woulfe)

Ní thuigim conas gur gairm bheatha é sin, ámh.

(holding assemblies, frequenting assemblies)

Protapolaiteoirí ab ea muintir Dálaigh!

Is féidir áfach go bhfuil dul amú orm; shíl mé gur saghas dlíodóra a bhí i gceist.

I was thinking more about a possible 'gaelicisation' of an English name. But this has generated an interestign discussion (as always happens)
