quote:Cheap sí go raibh an buachaill pas beag mall
"Pas beag mall, etc." is, I imagine, a Munster expression. "Mall" meaning "late" is probably confined to Ulster or at least I've only ever heard it from Donegal speakers.
quote:Pé duine a bhainfeadh lena chrann úll a ghreamú de
This is obviously the claoninsint of the phrase "Pé duine a bhainfidh le mo chrann úll greamaíodh sé de". The use of "pé" here suggests a Munster author.
quote:The Rooster was able to satisfy twenty hens without effort
I've no problem with "rooster" but if one is aiming for an Irish audience, "cockerel" might be a better translation.
quote:4.Ba ghearr go raibh sé ag dul ar gcúl sa saol.
He was quickly going backward in life?
Not "quickly" but "It wasn't long before . . . ".
quote:7. D’iarr an Cearrbhach air gan é a bhreith leis go dtí go raibh an t-orlach dóite ar an gcoinneall.
The "go raibh" here is the present subjunctive and not the past indicative.
