d'fhág mé léan orm féin
is d'fhág mé séan ar dhaoine eile

Cad is brí le 'léan' agus 'séan' sna línte seo ón amhrán " Níl n'a lá" ?

léan [ainmfhocal firinscneach den chéad díochlaonadh]
brón géar, mairg (léan ort! mo léan géar!).

séan [ainmfhocal firinscneach den chéad díochlaonadh]
comhartha; ádh, rath, áthas (sonas agus séan ort).

"léan" = brón / aiféala
"séan" = áthas / suairceas

Nuair a chuaigh sé isteach sa teach tábhairne chaith sé an t-airgead a bhí cruinnithe aige chun an cíos a bhí ag an tiarna talún air (that he owed the landlord).

Anois tá sé i gcruachás: níl airgead ar bith aige agus tá tinneas cinn air ón méid a d'ól sé sa phub.

Amhrán eile den chineál sin: "Pócaí folamha agus cloigeann tinn / suite anseo le balla etc."

I ended up (through my own actions) in woe,
and left others in prosperity, good fortune

The title of the song should be "Níl 'na Lá", 'na being short for "ina".

daoine eile = is cosúil gur cheannaigh sé deoch do gach aon duine sa phub.

D'fhágas focail ar lár thuas: chaith sé an t-airgead a bhí cruinnithe aige chun an cíos a íoc.
