A Chairde,an bhfuil aon difríocht idir thall agus sall? Níl sé soiléir dom as Ó Dónaill. Cúpla abairt samplaí más é bhur dtoil é.

thall = over there (without motion)
sall = over there (when you go there)

duifear céarna agus eadar "sios" agus "thios" (cf an s- agus an th- ins an tus).

Deirtear "anonn" go minic in ait "sall". Silim gur i gConamara don chuid is mo a usaidtear "sall" - deirtear "anonn" i dTir Chonaill.

Imagine you are standing on the pier from which the boat from Baile Átha Cliath to Hollyhead departs.

At different times in the itinerary you might say in response to questions:

Cá bhfuil an bád sin ag dul? Tá sí ag dul sall go Hollyhead.

Cá gcaitheann sí an oíche, thall nó abhus? (On the far side or on this side?); Caitheann sí an oíche thall.

Cén uair a thiocfaidh sí anall? Go moch ar maidin.

Tá duifear idir na focail seo:

sall : thall ; anall ; abhus

sall and anall imply movement.

Seo duit sampla beag,Dmd(tá súil agam go bhfuil sé sin ceart)

An taobh thall den tseomra-The far side of the room

Shiúil mé sall an tseomra-I walked across (or to the far side) of the room

Féach ar na freagraí eile mar is dóigh liom go bhfuil siad níos fearr ná an freagairt sin-is dócha go bhfuil siad go mór ceart.

quote:

-I walked across (or to the far side) of the room

Shiúil mé sall go dtí an taobh eile den seomra.

Shiúil mé anonn trasna an tseomra. [?? An bhfuil sé seo ceart? Cad is brí le "trasna"?? Thar? nó sall/anonn?]

Tá an méid seo le rá ag an bhFB:
trasna [réamhfhocal][dobhriathar][aidiacht][ainmfhocal]
ó thaobh amháin go dtí taobh eile (dul trasna na habhann, na sráide); crosta (teacht trasna ar dhuine); leithead (cuir isteach ar a thrasna é; tá sé dhá throigh ar a thrasna).

sall [dobhriathar]
go dtí an taobh thall, anonn.

thall [dobhriathar][aidiacht]
ar an taobh eile, taobh anonn (thall i Sasana; thall ná abhus; an taobh thall den ghleann; tá sé taobh thall den loch).
