Ó Siadhail gives these examples on pg. 196 of Learning Irish (lesson 35) Tá mé ag imeacht anois---------- Tá agus mise Is maith liom an áit seo------------------Is maith agus liomsa So how would this work if say someone has said to you something along the lines of: 'Rachainn ann agus an seans a bheith agam' Can you say as response to this for 'yes, and so would I: 'Rachfá agus mise'? or 'rachfá agus rachfainnse?' Rachadh agus mise! I think in these responses you pare down the verb to the minimum. No need for the person. Teachers try and elicit grammatical forms etc but in real life the minimum is customary. Regarding your example: 'Rachainn ann agus an seans a bheith agam' I wonder should that be: 'Rachainn ann ach an seans a bheith agam' (I would go if I had the opportunity?) |

'ach' a bheadh agamsa, cinnte. Bhí fhios agam go raibh rud éigin a d'fhág míshuaimhneach mé. |

Okay well thanks for the 'ach' over 'agus'! I wrote that example sentence off the top of my head and the 'ach' is definitely nicer, alors muchos gracias. So for the reply, simply 'agus mise' or 'rachadh agus mise'. Yes, that sounds more likely :) Thanks, I wasn't expecting such a fast reply. Am doing a power-study session of grammar tonight. |
