Bhíos ag léamh an t-úrscéal "Fonttenoy" le Liam Mac Cóil. Sa bhliain 1745 tá beirt saighdiiúirí Éireannacha in arm na Fraince ag labhairt faoi ionradh ar an mBreatian, agus deir duine acu "Tá an Ceannaí ar an tonn". Ní thuigim céard atá i gceist le "Tá an Ceannaí ar an tonn". What merhant? Céard is brí leis?

Is dóigh liom gur Ceannasaí atá i gceist;

The Captain is on the wave (i. at sea)

Ritheann sé liom gur ag smaoineamh ar an Stíobhartach a bhí sé. Tá dán ann "Mac an Cheannaí". Aisling is ea é. Bhíodh na Gaeil ag tnúth le cabhair ón bhFrainc, ón Spáinn, nó ó thír ar bith a chuideodh leo réimeas Shasana a scrios agus na Gaeil a chur i gcumhacht arís.

An Stíobhartach? Bonnie Prince Charlie? Séamus a Dó? Jacobites? Níl an stair ar eolas agam.

Is ionadh liom gur "ar an tonn" atá scríofa (scríte) ag Liam Mac Cóil. I would have expected the old dative "ar toinn" ar an bhfarraige. "ar an tonn" sounds "revival Irish" to me

Tá tuairim agam gur giota de dhán eicínt é, a Thaidhgín, áit a bhféadfadh "ar an tonn" bheith riachtanach ar maithe leis an meadaracht.

Tóigfidh mé Fontenoy anocht agus caithfidh súil air....

Leabhar den scoth é.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

Ta cóip "Fíon na Filiochta" agam ó na caogadaí.
Ta "Mac an Cheannaí" ann agus tá 4 vearsaí breis ann.

The words are a little different than those on

http://www.navan.org/lyrics/mac_an_cheannai.html

but I heard that some poems were revised in the 1980s to,they say, bring them back closer to the originals.

Is fearr liom na focail atá agam

Is álainn an leabhar é "Fion na Filíochta" ach is áille fós é "Filíocht na nGael". Fuaireas mar théacsleabhar sa mheánscoil é sa bhliain 1953 agus táim in ann mo lámh a leagan anois féin air tar éis 57 mbliana. Tá furmhór na ndánta léite agam agus cuid mhaith agam de ghlanmheabhair. Is é mo "bhíobla" é. Dá bhféadfá grá a thabhairt do leabhar d'fhéadfainn a rá go dtugaimse grá d'Fhilíocht na nGael. Uimhir 1 ar an liosta leabhar is ansa liom. Cheannóinn cóip eile.

Tá sin agam freisin. (Sílim: litriú réamhchaighdéanach atá ar an leabhar atá agamsa)
