Hi. I have the wonderful Ceol an Aifreann 1&2 CDs of music by Seán Ó Riada, and the Psalm Maifread Thu, a Thiarna is particularly beautiful. But unlike the leaflet in the CD said, there is no PDF of the lyrics on my CD. And the title is given as Maifread Thu, a Thiarna. I am not sure if Maifread means anything in Irish - the actual song sounds more like "mairfidh tú" - but there is no such Psalm with such wording. I am unsure what Psalm it is. Does anyone know? Luasgann an tAṫair Peadar mo ṡaoġal!.

I can't put my hand on my copy of the books, so I'm not sure. It may be bits from different Psalms, that woul dbe quite common, since not all texts in Irish would be a singable as in Hebrew! Can you give me a few more lines to work with? At least in an Bíobla Naofa and Online from the CofI, Psalm 30 starts with Molfaidh mé http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/files/worship/htm/An_tSaltair_001-050.htm |

I don't understand enough of it, I am afraid. It does not correspond to Psalms 30 or 145, which would have text corresponding to Maífead thu. The CD is meant to come with the text. I will get the text when I go to the Gaeltacht this summer and let you have it. Do you the CD Aonghus? Luasgann an tAṫair Peadar mo ṡaoġal!.

I have tapes (bought in the early 1990s) and the books somewhere. But they are two thin books, and somewhere amongst the hundreds of books here.... |

I just listened to it here http://www.we7.com/#/track/An-Salm-Ma-fead-Th--A-Thiarna!trackId=3873715 (Warning, advertising and not great quality). I think it is assembled from bits of psalms, incluidng a lot of 30 but not matching it. I've sent an e-mail to Peadar Ó Riada - I'll post any reply I get. I am tempted to put the MP3 on my website - probably no one would mind - but it would violate copyright. I think I am right in saying copyright in music lasts for only 25 years.. Luasgann an tAṫair Peadar mo ṡaoġal!.

I'm not sure. Google suggests people have been a bit free and easy with it already. IMRO says 70 years from the death of the author. http://www.imro.ie/node/686#4 |
