I have come up to: i gcaitheamh an trí rátha (over the three seasons) Apart from the fact that rátha would be more recognisable as ráithe, the use of the singular article leaps out. I know you say "an dá". Do all the numbers have singular articles? What if I said, "over the ten seasons"? I gcaitheamh an deich ráithe? Does it depend on whether the noun following the numeral is in the singular or plural? Ráithe is in the singular here, as nouns after numerals often are. In other words, I am wondering whether this expression is a typo in the original and ought to be: i gcaitheamh na dtrí ráithe/ráithí? |

"I gcaitheamh na dtrí rátha" is standard but I wouldn't assume the other's a misprint. Between dialects, standard and generational differences, numbers in Irish are a bit of a crazy quilt. Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!
