This probably sounds like a silly point but I would like to be able to add or take away subtitles on TG4 via the text button. I find them helpful on occasion but more often than not it takes an effort of will not to read ahead via the subtitles. Maybe I should go for the low tech solution and invest in some masking tape! |

quote:This probably sounds like a silly point but I would like to be able to add or take away subtitles on TG4 via the text button. The reception in some parts of the country for people using aerials isn't the best so teletext subtitles would be heavily distorted. Where I live TV3 and TG4 have never been very clear so I watch them on Sky (well not TV3 - it's dreadful :) ). I don't know how this operates in Ireland, but here there is closed captioned subtitles which you can turn on or off. My thought is, where are the Irish subtitles? That is a huge gap in my opinion. I personally found the English helpful at times, and at other times annoying. I ndiaidh a chéile a thógtar na caisleáin.

TG4 no longer comes under RTÉ, so you'd have to take it up with them! Seán W - write to and tell them so. I don't think they realise they have a market abroad. |

as a learner...Irish subtitles to go with the Irish text would be phenominally helpful...english subtitles are counterproductive for people in my position... |

I wrote them these ideas: - All Irish television and film should have Irish subtitles, in addition to English. - Irish radio should have transcriptions, at least of prominent interviews. - Keep the blasted podcasts up to date! (The latest available Rónán Beo is 15 Nollaig 2009 and Barrscealta 12 Eanáir 2010 ?!?!?!) These should be updated daily. Even small scale radio shows get this done! Talk about dropping a huge ball!
