Would anyone know the etymology of Naoscach the Irish for Snipe? I have vague recollections of being told in Corca Dhuibhne onetime that it was an + aoscach or something similar that referred to marshy ground.
Have searched a lot of books and on-line without success. Thanks in advance.

Acoording to McBain's Dictionary:

naosga
a snipe, Irish naosga: *snoib-sko-, root sneib, snib of English snipe?

Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin.
