I was recently asked to translate "moonlit sands", and am stumped with "moonlit". Any suggestions?

Ní ritheann aon ní níos gonta liomsa ach oiread. Ach creidim go bhfuil nath ann.

Beidh orm féachaint ar na dea leabhair.

Oíche ghealaí does mean "moonlit night" but gaineamh gealaí sounds like maybe you are talking about sand that comes from the moon; it literally means "sand of the moon" right?

Exactly what I was thinking. I want to stay away from implying that they are sands from the moon, but I can't think of any succint way to put it.

gaineamh gealaí? Lunar sand?

How about:

Gaineamh a bhí maisithe le solas na gealaí.

There may not be a succinct way of saying it, since Irish is a distinct language and not merely a translation of English.

oops, I just noticed that I made a mistake on my translation attempt (it was late)- I think it should be, "gaineamh fé/faoi sholas na gealaí"

Given that moonless is rédhorcha in de Bhaldraithe, I propose régheal

Gaineamh régheal

Dá dtarraingeofá díolúine an fhile chugat, d'fhéadfá "gaineamh gealachshonraithe" a úsáid.

Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin.

I thought Wee_falorie_man's "gaineamh fén solas na gealaí" was close, though I would say "gaineamh faoi sholas na gealaí"

Oh well, I guess Tadhg was looking for something a little more concise. By the way, I had corrected my original answer to, "gaineamh fé/faoi sholas na gealaí" in my last post (yesterday).
