Is dea-scéala é sin, grma!

Tá ionadh orm go mbeidh sé san Indo -- ní maith leo an Ghaeilge.

That's great. An Phoblacht (APRN) by Sinn Féin also has an Irish page in it, if that tradition continues.

Dúradh nuair a bhíodh an plean céanna á phlé cheana féin go gceannófaí an nuachtán agus go gcaithfí go díreach san araid dramhpháipéir é - an ní dhéanfainn amhlaidh leis an Indo má bhíonn deis agam cóip a cheannach. -;)

On the one hand, I question the wisdom of putting Foinse in a paper which is notoriously anti-Irish-language. On the other habd, the Indo has a huge reading audience and in terms of exposure, it's hard to beat.

Will they delete all the fadas in Foinse before printing?

Go to the heart of the beast, or rather, operate behind enemy lines. I think this was an excellent decision on their part, as long as they keep editorial control.

Pádraig Ó Céidigh is a canny business man. This was a business decision. I hope it works.

I don't think the Indo is notoriusly anti Irish - I just think they think they get market share that way, and some of their journalists have an Irish language element to the chip on their shoulders!

My own newsagent has intimated that he'll give me a copy of Foinse on Wednesdays. He reckons that a lot of Indo buyers will be more than happy to leave the "Irish supplement" behind them. So I get a free Foinse (as long as I go on buying the IT presumably)!

Sin modh oibre eile.

Bheadh spéis agam fháil amach an mbeidh difear dá laghad i ndíolaíocht an Indo dá bharr. Nó an mbeidh léitheoirí Foinse ag teacht i dtír ar na Béarlóirí falsa...

Beidh na Béarlóirí falsa faoi léigear ó dhá thaobh: nuachtán laistigh nach dtuigeann siad agus nuachtán lasmuigh ar an seilf (.i. an IT) nach dtuigeann siad. -;)

Scéal eile san Indo:

http://www.independent.ie/national-news/irishlanguage-paper-goes-national-194440 6.html

Maidir le leagan ar líne, níl fhios agam. Ní raibh an píosaí den sean-Fhoinse ar líne.

Tuairim 45, dearfainn. Ba "tabloid" é.

(About 45, I'd say)

Seans go mbeidh an leagán nua níos mó dirithe ar eachtraí náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta. Bhí ailt mar sin sa shean-Fhoinse ach bá cineál nuachtáin áitiúil don Ghaeltacht é chomh maith. Is beag an spéis atá ag an gnáthléitheoir Indo i gcruinnithe Chomhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe!

(The new version is likely to be more focused on national and international coverage. Although there was this kind of coverage in the old version, it was also a kind of local paper for the Gaeltacht. It is hard to see this continuing now that it will be distributed with a national paper.)

Cheannaigh me an Indo agus thug mé an mórpaipéir ar ais don siopadóir! Tá tionchar an Indo ann, le cailín le sciorta deas ghear ar an bpríomhleathanach! (Is Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin atá i gceist - ta leithscéal acu).

Tá cuma níos eadroime air ach níor léigh mé ach cúpla alt go dtí seo.

Cheannaigh mise Foinse leis an Irish Independent saor in aisce timpeall air!

Níos eadroime cinnte, agus codanna móra dírithe ar scoileanna agus da bhrí sin gan spéis agam iontu. Beidh breis le rá agam ar ball - ar mo bhlag, is dócha.

A dhuine gan ainm, tá uimhir fón san nuachtán féin. Cuirfidh mé suas ar ball é.

What is Nuacht 7?

One of the competitors for the contract for a weekly paper put out to tender by Foras na Gaeilge after the negotiations with foinse failed.

http://www.nuacht7.ie/

shows a mock-up sample.

An Druma Mór/Nuacht 24 were bidding, but had to withdraw after one of the partners withdrew from the consortium. They will continue the current mode of subscriber supported, effectively amateur (in the good sense of the word) operation. Daily updates to a blog, once a week paper which is printed & sent to subscribers (like me) and available online. This has different content to the blog. It is almost at the same standard as the daily Lá was.

http://andrumamornuacht.blogspot.com/

Some former Foinse journalists are involved in another bid, but I don't know much about it.

I think there were about 6 bids in total.

When one considers how quickly Lá Nua and then Foinse fell, it's encouraging to see publications taking their place. And all in the space of a year.

Do you know who's behind the Nuacht 7 bid? Are they based in the Gaeltacht?

I know that Conchubhar Ó Liatháin (former editor of Lá, now back in his home of Cúil Aodha) is slated as editor. I think the consortium is led by the businessman behind litriocht.com, gaeltalk.net and Bard na nGleann.
