Halo a chairde. Tá ceist agam. I always thought the county name 'Fear Manach' had something to do with monks living there. But someone told me that was not true. They said it was named after a 'tuath' called the 'Mannaí'. Can anyone direct me to a previous discussion of this topic on the forum or if there hasn't been any, could someone enlighten me? I've read that there's a link between "Manach" and the ancient tribe the "Manapi"/"Menapi" located in the south-east according to Ptolemy's map of Ireland (2nd century): http://www.informaworld.com/ampp/image?path=/791546828/791562641/rigy_a_291103_o _f0001g.png Presumably this group spoke a Brythonic (P-Celtic) language at that time but at some point became Goidelic (Q-Celtic) speakers which explains the change from "p" to "ch".
