Hi all

I dunno if any of you watches Nuacht at around 5:45 pm on RTE 1 from Monday to Friday, but what does Siún Ní Gearailt say in her greeting? It sounds something like "Dibire maitheas agaibh" but that's obviously incorrect as there's no such eord as dibire. Any ideas, folks?

Go raibh maith agaibh

Derek (nua anseo)

Derek a chara, níor chuala le tamall í ach is dócha gur 'Dé bhur mbeathasa' atá i gceist.

'Dé do bheatha' isteach anseo thú féin!

Agus is féidir an feasachán a léamh faoin nasc seo: http://www.rte.ie/nuacht/

The bulletin isn't up-to-date at the moment (the holiday break, I suppose) but it's a good way to become familiar with a lot of the current affairs' vocabulary. The words and expressions crop up again and again so you quickly start to develop an encouraging sense of achievement.

Interesting! She seems to say "Dé bhur mbeathasa agus tá fáilte romhat..." Plural then singular.

Is this a common expression or just her own trademark greeting?

I'm fairly sure what she siad is "romhaibh", not romhat.

At least, in todays version.

I must have misheard, I'm thinking; it doesn't seem to make sense otherwise.

I had to listen to it a few times, the quality wasn't great. But I've heard her on the radio and ocaasionally on TV and I'm sure I'd have noticed.
