Hi Just wondering what the correct pronunication of this word is "Thabharfainn"--- I would say "Tower-hinn" Is that correct? I've heard it pronounced "Hoor-hinn" Just wondering which is correct? Go raibh maith agat. |

Yeah in West Kerry they say "HOOR-hinn". By the way in Ulster, people would use "bheirfinn" or "bhéarfainn" as the independent form. Learn Irish pronunciation here: http://loig.cheveau.ifrance.com/irish/irishsounds/irishsounds.html & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

Thabharfainn = "hewrr-hin" or "hohrr-hin" in Conamara. Your own pronunciation is acceptable everywhere but put a séimhiú on that "T" It is not "Tower-hin" but "hower-hin" (pronouncing "how" as in "How are you?") |
