Are there any Irish speaking areas left in Tyrone? I see references to Irish spoken inTyrone on this forum from time to time and I was just wondering.

There are revived Irish speakers in Tyrone, but I think the native speakers died out some time in the middle of the last century. There may be isolated old people who still speak it natively.

There is a book of Gaeilge Thír Eoghain: Sgéalta Mhuintir Loinigh / Munterloney Folk Tales. (I may not have the name spelled right. It is a long time since I saw it. Is fada ó chonaic mé é.)

Tá fearr ann as Dún na nGall, Teileann sílim, Paddy Boyle atá ag scríobh leabhar faoi fear Paddy Laidir as Glenlark in aice le Gortin i dTír Eoghain, sílim go raibh an fear sin an cainteor dhúchas deireanach. Fuair sé bás an chéid seo cáite, b'fhéidir sna seascaidí nó na seachtoidí.

There's a man from Teileann in Donegal i think called Paddy Boyle who is writing a book about a man called Paddy Laidir from Glenlark near Gortin in Tyrone, i think he was one of the last native speakers in Tyrone and he died in the 60's or 70's.

Beidh Scéalta Mhuintir Luinigh ag teacht amach in athuair go luath.

Cuid mhór taiféid agam féin den chainúint sein (1930-1970), má fhaighim deis cuirfidh mé suas iad.

Ta cuntas acadúil déanta ar an chanúint sin chomh maith.

Bhí leathchainteoir beo ag deireadh na hochtóidí agus ba mhillte a chuid Gaeilge le Gaeilg Thír Chonaill siocair gurbh as an áit sin a mháthair.

Tréan spéis ann sa chaint sin agus maireann dreas maith focal di i nGaeilge Thír Eoghain inniu cé nach mbíonn gach duine baúil di os rud é gurbh chanúint 'cha' a bhí ann.

Baineann sé le 1. Rannnafaisteachas. agus 2. tuairimí fán chineál Gaeilge ab cheart do dhaoine nach cainteoirí dúchais iad a labhairt agus 3. Baineann sé le tuairim dúchasach atá ann leis na ceadta bliana gur drochGhaeilge é.

Is cainteoir 'cha' mé féin ach athraím go ní agus mé ag obair sa mheán, ag caint le daoine nach dtuigeann nó nach maith leo é.

Ar ndóigh, is é ní an rud claisiceach.
