This extract is an analysis of the poem "An t-Oileán Treighthe" by Caoimhín Ó Conghaile Could someone help me please wiht the translation. I know the poem is about the deserted Blasket Islands and how the poet feels lonely and sad as a result. Cloistear na héin mhara ag glaoch, méileach ghéar na gcaorach, díoscán na ndoras agus glórtha éagsúla na farraige. Ach tá an t-oileán marbh anois le marbhfháisc an tosta, gan siolla ó bhéal duine ná cluas ann le h-éisteacht |

One hears the calling of the sea-birds, the bleating of the sheep, the creaking of the doors and the various voices (sounds) of the sea. But the island is dead now beneath the shroud of silence, without a syllable from a person's mouth nor an ear there to hear it. Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin.

Skii30, full marks for iniative, 'nul points' for effort; it wasn't that difficult. Ormondo, don't be encouraging such laziness. (And I'm not sure whether Skii's a teacher or a student) |

Hugo, strictly speaking you are right, but a hard-working student deserves a wee breather now and then. Just like in training the easier phases are used to prime the system for the next strenuous part. Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin.
