I found a nice youtube video of this poem/song at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ojy1W6r8L0&feature=related, and appreciated the singing of Iarla O Lionaird in particular.

I was wondering why ghile is pronounced with a hard g? Is it just always pronouonced like this in this song?

A Thriggir, I would have expected " a yili mar", but can you listen to that youtube video and tell me if I am wrong about this? Maybe in this particular song it is pronounced "mo gile mear"?

They sing:
Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear
Sé mo Chaesar, gile mear,
Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin
Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear

First and last line /j/ in mo ghile mear
Second line /g´/ in gile mear without mo.
