Does anyone have a copy of An tOileánach handy? I read the English translation by Robin Flower a couple of years ago.

I'm looking for the entry in the Irish version which deals with the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin. If I recall correctly, one of the chapter headings refers to the Rising. I'm basing this on what I read in the English version. There's a passage where one of the islanders refers to the 'foreigner' [meaning British forces presumably] or some such thing. They were discussing the news of the rising when it finally reached the island.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could provide the original Irish for this section, along with a translation (or the English version as it's presented in Flower's book, if someone from the forum has that too.)

I wish I still had a copy so I could just look it up!!

I had a look, but I found no such chapter heading. There is one chapter which mentions the great war - but I found no mention of the rising.

Go raibh míle maith agat, a Aonghuis. Thanks for taking the time to look it up.

Hmm. Was this the Irish version that you checked? I guess there wouldn't be much difference between the two. I could've sworn that there is a brief mention about Dublin 1916 in the translation by Flowers. Maybe it's not in the Chapter headings, but the body of the text. I've searched high and low on Google...even for a site which lists the Chapter Titles for the book. No such luck.

If anyone has the English version and could list the Chapters, I'd really appreciate it. Any passage which refers to Easter, or Rebels or 1916. I'm almost certain that it's in there somewhere.

Yes. I don't own, and have never read the english version. I have a 1930 Edition and that was the closest to hand.
It's possible that the later edition was expanded, and that the reference is there. I have a vague recollection of something to do with it in one of the books (An tOileánach, Scéalta ón Inis Tiar, Allagar na hInise).
