Hello everyone!

I'm brand new to this site and stumbled upon it while doing some research into Claiomh Solais - i'm looking for information on this Irish Myth for a project i am doing. The only info i have gotten so far is off Wikipedia! Can anyone help? Thanks, Karl

Sounds like a name for one of the treasures of the Tuatha de Danann. The Sword of Light. I'd have to do some poking around, and would probably find mind much the same stuff that you will, but I'll see what turns up.

"...from wikipedia:
In Irish mythology, Claíomh Solais (IPA: [kɫiːv ˈsɔɫɪʃ]; also known as The Sword of Light) was a sword that came from Findais and belonged to Nuada Airgeadlámh (Nuada of the Silver Hand), who was leader of the Tuatha Dé Danann and King of Ireland.

In legend, the sword glowed with a bright light, hence its name. It was irresistible in battle and had the power to cut his enemies in half.[citation needed]

It is one of the Four Treasures of Ireland (the others being the Spear of Lugh, The Dagda’s Cauldron and the Stone of Fal). The Tuatha Dé Danann had once lived far away where they learned many skills and magic in the Four Cities; Fáilias, Gorias, Murias, and Findias...."

Is that the one?

Frankly, I've always loved the literary descent of these elements of Irish myth and lore into popular culture. From Lugh confronting the evil Balor with the Sword of Light, straight to Luke confronting the evil Vader armed with a lightsaber. Nice to see things being re-used and preserved.

Anyway...

Beir bua!
Craig
