Is deas an bheannacht í, a Aonghuis. I'd love to have go, or at least a closer look at it, but it will have to wait until after next Tuesday. Unfortunately, work has piled up and that's my next deadline. |

The {ná=than / ná=or} thing threw me only after I gave "nára tiugha" my best. I hope I've gotten your train of thought.
This is a very interesting and enjoyable exercise for me even though it may be way above my head with the Gaeilge I have.

It is a particularly tricky construction.
It would be easier to translate into English by making the whole thing positive, and reversing the order.
Go raibh na beannachtaí ó Rí na ngrást
le gach anam a bhí, a bheidh, nó 'tá
níos tiugha féar ag fás
nó gaineamh ar thrá
nó drúcht ar bhán
May the blessings from the King of Grace
be thicker than grass growing,
or sand on a beach
or dew on a lawn
I don't think I could put what is there exactly into English - the construction just wouldn't work. |
