Hello there. I posted a thread a while ago, "A Little Help!", though I was posting as "JP Murphy" due to pending my accounts activation.

Well, anyways, I had intitially planned to learn Munster Irish (see thread), but I sucumbed to the lure of Mícháel Ó Siadhail's Learning Irish.

I've had it for a couple of days now, and it really looks like it's going to be hard going. I'm hoping to find if there's anyone who's completed the textbook - using the CDs (or casettes) - that might be willing to work with me?

I really don't think i'll be able to get through it on my own. So if anyone's willing to help, just drop me a PM!

Thanks,
Jp.

Welcome, JP. My suggestion is that as you make your way through the book, just post questions to this forum as they occur to you.

Much ground is covered in Learning Irish, so even though the individual lessons seem short, take your time with them and remember that a lot of information is contained in each one.

Also, I don't know where you live, but if you're in the US or Canada then you might check here and see if there are any teachers nearby:

Good to see another Ó Murchadha here :)

A word of advice - you may come across people who'll tell you your name is spelt incorrectly or that it's the "old" way. That you should spell it "Ó Murchú".
They're wrong.
"Ó" - "descendant"/"grandson" + "Murchadha" - genitive of "Murchadh". Perfect.

"Ó Murchú" is a crude phonetic form which not only completely obscures the meaning of the name but suggests another: "descendant of Muirchú" - which is another, entirely separate old forename meaning "Sea hound".
