Tá suim mór agam i stair na Ghaeilge. cá bhfuairimíd na bhfocail go léir,na tréimhse,na seanfhocail agus araile.
An mbeadh aon té ábalta na tearmaí seo i leanas a mínigh dom? Agus go mór mhór bun na bhfocail a rá liom.

"Dár Fia"
usaidtear an ceann seo sa bheallach céanna le "Dár Dia", - in the name of god. ach cad is brí leis an "Fia"? cad é bun an bhfocail seo?

"In ainm Chroim"
An leagan cainte ón Criostaíocht é seo?

"Líach ort"/"Gread Leat"
Tá fhios am, gur mallachtaí é seo. Ach cad as a tháinig na bhfocail "líach" gus "gread"?

an t-ádh oraibh go léir!

Dár Fia, In ainm Chroim

Minced Oaths as "Gosh!" in English, I'd say.

"Líach ort"/"Gread Leat"

Quiet literary:
(Go raibh) liach ort! = May calamity be upon you, may you have sorrow.

gread an bóthar = hit the road, be off
gread (leat)! = be off (with you)! ("leat" for reinforcement and required haste)

D’úrt múinteoir ollscoile liom gur ainm seandia págánach Crom. "Dar Crom" a deirtear fosta.

Is fíor dhuit.
Ach cosúil le Muise (ó Mhuire) agus Ambaist (dar mo bhaiste) is "minced Oath" atá i gceist. (c.f By Jove an Bhéarla)
