Hi All! I am searching for a translation for a songtitle - maybe someone can help me? It's a song by Warren Barker and it's called "Deir'In De". Browsing a number of Irish dictionary websites I came to guess that it might mean "End of the day", or "At the end of the day". It's in a songbook about old-days Irish lullabies. Our brassband here in Germany is playing it and we just would love to know what it means. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks so much! |

Deirín Dé I don't think it means anything, it's a lullaby and the "Deirín Dé" is just some nice sounding words for the refrain. |

Ní dóigh leat, a Aonghuis, gur é "Little Herpe of God"? |

Nach dóigh leat, a DBT, go bhfuil síneadh fada ar lár agus gurb é "God's little dairy" atá i gceist? "An seanchas gearr, an seanchas is fearr."

Tá an dá leagan feicthe agam nuair a chuaigh mé á lorg. Ach anois nuair a smaoiním air "Déirín" atá i mo chluas. Ach deir an Dálach gur "Deirín Dé" atá i gceist: "(words used in) a child's game played by twirling a glowing stick" Sibylle, laut Woerterbuch sind es Woerte aus einem Kinderspiel, d.h. ohne eigentliche Bedeutung |

Thanks so much, everybody! (Even with a German response!) No wonder I did not find any fitting translation... You have a great website! Best wishes, Sibylle |

Agus seo iad na h-aistriúcháin: (Und hier sind die Übersetzungen!): I dtuaisceart na Gearmáine: (Im norddeutschen Raum.): "La-le-lu". I ndeisceart na Gearmáine: (Im süddeutschen Raum.): "Abba haidschi bum baidschi". (Irgendwo in Texas hat man einmal zu oft "Derring-do" dazu gesungen, leider.) Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin.
