Tá mé ag scríobh litir. An é ceart?

quote:

A Bhreándaí, a chara,
Dia dhuit! Tá litir seo mo hiarracht a cabhraigh duit le Ghaeilge. Tiontaigh seo, le do thoil. Go raigh maith agat!
Is mise le meas,
Sieirál

Cén chiall a bhaineann tú as "tiontaigh"? Ní thuigim cad na thaobh go bhfuil sé ann. An "ceartaigh" nó "freagair" an focal atá uait?

Go raibh maith agat, a Dhomhnaillín. :)
I wanted it to say "Translate this..." Is é seo ceart?

Is feidir tiontú a úsáid do "translate", ach tá "aistrigh" níos coitianta

Nílim cinnte de. San Fhoclóir Beag atá an sainiú "casadh, iompú; aistriú (leabhar a thiontú go Gaeilge)", ach ní chasas-sa ar an úsáid seo riamh. Deirfinnse "aistrigh" ina áit.

Edit: Ní fhaca an freagra san. Go raibh maith agat, a Aonghuis.

Is féidir "Aistrigh seo, le do thoil" a rá, ach ní déarfainn "Tiontaigh seo, le do thoil." Ach is féidir "Tiontaigh (é) seo go Béarla" a rá... cé nach minic a chloistear a leithéid.

Go with "aistrigh". But I'm not clear of the meaning intended in the first sentence. Are you asking for help or offering it?

"An seanchas gearr,
an seanchas is fearr."
