Hello, Seabhac. I'm pretty sure that this a word more usually spelled 'mónóg' - a bogberry or cranberry. It also means a droplet or bead of something: 'mónóg allais', for example. Does that make sense in the context of what you're reading?

I think the change occurs because you had the weak velar n after ó, but today that has mostly gone, so you are left with the strong n, with tends to make it a ú, or so it seems to me

sold!
