Haigh Just a question: what is a "coláiste" in Irish? How old are the people/children who go to coláistí ? How do you translate "coláiste" (are there other translations, besides "college" ?) It's for my Irish-French dictionary (not finished yet, but it will be soon). Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

It's the same as the English word. it can mean a collective of any group, students, surgeons, cardinals, etc, or the actual building in which they are housed. There are the usual secondary schools and the summer schools and the people who attend them can be teenagers or adults, depending on the purpose of the college. The English and the Irish words both derive from the Latin. Seanfhear |

Go rabh maith agaibh. Tá sé deacair go leor an focal sin a dh’aistriú siocair go bhfuil córas oideachais iontach difriúil sa Fhrainc... (Message edited by Lughaidh on July 31, 2008) Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/
