Learners of Irish sometimes say/write "Buíochas!" as a translation of "Thanks!" That's really an anglicism, to my knowledge, a little like saying "Gratitude!" would be in English. If "Go raibh maith agat" seems too long, and "GRMA" too texty, try "Maith agat!" And "Sonas ort!" is always nice, if a little old-fashioned. For really long-winded and old-fashioned, there's:

Go bhfága Dia do shláinte agat!

Go bhfága Dia do radharc agat! (When someone has found something for you or pointed something out to you)

And for real gratitude: Go bhfeice mé liath thú agus ciall ag do chlann! :-)

"An seanchas gearr,
an seanchas is fearr."

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

I think the "leat" makes it Irish again. And God knows, there's certainly "Buíochas le Dia!", rud a deirim sách minic (agus ní creidmheach mé). I never got in the habit of saying "Buíochas leat", however. Cé chomh minic is a deirtear é sin, dar leat?

an seanchas is fearr."

Nach iad na focla is Gaelaí ar fad againn!

Cé chomh minic is a deirtear é sin, dar leat?
Dar liom? Níos ainnmhe ná GRMA is a ghaolta, níos minice ná na cinn eile a luadh thuas.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

Sin nath ólacháin, déarfainn. Ní dóigh liom go dtuigfí buíochas as.

Is féidir "sláinte" a úsáid i mbeannachtaí, ar ndóigh, agus is minic a bhaintí feidhm as beannacht le buíochas a ghabháil le duine sa sean-am. Seo bailiúchán beag de bheannachtaí mar sin:

Ná raibh tú choíche gan riar do cháis.
Go méadaí Dia do stór.
Go dtuga Dia slí agus fáltas duit.
Nár thaga bris ná bearna ort.
Nár chaille mé choíche thú.
Go dtuga Dia slán as gach gábh thú.
Ná raibh tú aon lá go brách gan do sháith agat.
Go gcuire Dia an t-ádh ort.
Gura fada faoi bhláth thú gan easpa ar do shláinte.
Gur fada buan i do shaol thú.
Dealbh go deo ná raibh tú.
Smior láidir i do chnámha.
Soirbh gach slí duit.
Bua is biseach leat.
Saol fada agus grian ar aer.
Cibé áit do shlí, bíodh sí socair, sona agus sábháilte.
Lí na sláinte i do leicne.

"An seanchas gearr,
an seanchas is fearr."

"Beannacht leat" nach bhfuil "goodbye" atá i gceist?

:))) sliocht mhaidin Dé Luain air sin, ar ndóigh.

Take 2.

Nach é "goodbye" atá i gceist leis sin?

Sea.

Beannacht ort - bheidh sin níos cruinne do "go raibh maith agat"

Tá "Gura míle" cloiste sách minic agam i gCorca Dhuibhne.

Ní dóigh liom go gcloisfí na leaganacha áille thuas ró mhinic.

Nuáil atá ann, a déarfainn, cosúil le "sin féidearthacht" agus ... "nuáil". ;-)
