Subject: MTA & the Great Irish Fair

The next Great Irish Fair in Coney Island is scheduled for September 20-21, 2008.

Each year the MTA issues posters providing travel information for this event.

We urge that this year, the Irish language be included in posters and announcements pertaining to the Fair.

Last month's Glór na nGael conference, "Fís Ghaeilge Mheiriceá Thuaidh" held in Manhattan testified to the growing strength of the Irish language in New York and North America. (http://fisghaeilge.blogspot.com).

Foras na Gaeilge, the Irish Government's official body for promoting the use of Irish, would be able to assist you here. (http://gaeilge.ie).

Also, several more locally-based Irish-language organisations would be able to provide practical guidance and advise.

Some such organisations would be:

Cumann Carad na Gaeilge/Philo-Celtic Society (founded 1873 in Brooklyn!): http://philo-celtic.com

Daltaí na Gaeilge: http://daltai.com

Scoil Ghaeilge Ghearóid Tóibín/Gerry Tobin Scoil: http://scoilgaeilge.org

We remain at your disposal for any further information or assistance.

Is sinn, le mórmheas,
