If I search on Google for the word 'Gaelige' I get over 30,000 results. Is this a common misspelling or can it be correct in some usage?

If I search on Google for the word 'Gaeilge' I get over 6 million results.

Any help would be much appreciated!

It is a common misspelling and never correct.

I think it is an Irish orthographic convention always (?) to spell a stressed [ɛ] as "ei", if it is followed by a slender consonant.

I agree with Aonghus.
On top of that, I don't think people pronounce Gaeilge as [ˈgˠɛːlʲɪɟɪ] in any Gaeltacht, so it's even not a phonetic transcription...
gˠɛːlʲɪc in Ulster
gˠɛːlʲɟɪ in Connemara
gˠɛːlˠɪnʲ or gˠɛːlˠɪŋʲ in Munster...

Why did you put that ɪ between l and ɟ? I thought there is no epenthesis after long vowels.

Yes, of course, it was about the wrong spelling *Gaelige*. I had not read it properly.

I've even been told that someone saw that written on the back of a book once.

Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam.
