I must admit I am a little wary of professional entertainers who seek to further their own careers by perpetuating the stereotypes of the Irish, pandering primarily not to the Irish people but to the Anglo world. What do others think of Des Bishop, is he exploiting us and/or our language for his own gain or is he genuinely trying to help promote it? Seanfhear |

No, he's exploiting it in the same way as many comedians exploit or USE controvertial or stereotypicality for humour. He would have really no need of promoting it. However he seems ?to have a fondness for things Irish and to enjoy the Irish experience. I would be more supportive of him doing shows here. I'm not sure if the shows done abroad can be little more than a medium for poking fun. Not sure I can be that judgemental though or never laugh at a comedy gig again for fear of being hypocritical... |

My daughter was in Conamara last year when Des was there. She said he seemed to be very genuine and was as much interested in the Irish pepole's attitude to gaeilge, as in learning to speak it. Give it a few more episodes before passing judgement |
