My name is Barbara McGeever and I live in Australia, but have an Irish heritage way back. Could someone please write how to say mamó (grandmother) Does a = a long a (hay), a short a (cat), or ar (car). Does ó = a long o (hoe), a short o (cot), or an or (oar). Thanks to anyone who can help me with this request. Greetings from Oz Down Under. |

For m, you must purse lips to make a 'mw' sound None of the a sounds are approximates, try 'a' in father but shorter. I think it varies in length in dialects though Irish vowels are pure, unlike British or Auzzie vowels, so while 'hoe' for me would be the same, for you it is likely not. If you say the word pure, not off glided (that is, with only the o sound, not a little bit of a second vowel before it) then it is the same le díol
