Tá maoiniú de suas le Eur660,000 á chur ar fáil ó Chiste na Gaeilge thar tréimhse trí bliana acadúla chun leanúint ar aghaidh leis na cláir Fulbright agus scoláire Gaeilge Fulbright a fhostú. Is é an sprioc atá ag an gClár Fulbright FLTA (Foreign Language Teaching Assistants Programme) ná teagasc na dteangacha eachtrannacha a neartú i gcoláistí agus in ollscoileanna mórthimpeall na Stát Aontaithe.

Sa Fhrainc, is minic a ghníthear magadh fá na daoiní a bhfuil céim acu i dteangaidh mhionlaigh. Ar an dea-uair, ní minic a leithéid sna tíortha sibhialaithe (gidh nach bhfuil SAM sibhialaithe go hiomlán ;-) ).

Tarlaíonn sin mar atá eagla mór ar na Frangcaigh go bhfuil a dteanga ag titim síos sórt phoill. Bíonn éadmhar iontu

The Irish Independent's view:

quote:

Mr O Cuiv said the State was already helping to fund projects that promote the language in local overseas communities -- and said there was a pub in the US where everyone spoke Irish.

Cá bhfuil an teach tabhairne seo?

Ceist mhaith! Áit éigin i mBostún nó i Springfield? Gach ré Déardaoin idir a sheacht agus a deich??

Creideann cupla duine é, ach tá sin amaideach amach. Ach an chuid is mó do na daoiní a ghníos magadh, síleann siad gur duine amaideach thú má labhrann tú teangaidh "bheag", agus chan amháin teangaidh "mhór" mar Fhraincis, Béarla nó cionn mar sin (agus ar ndóighe, ós rud é nach bhfuil ach teangaidh amháin acu féin, cha smaoiteann siad go dtig leat dheá theangaidh nó níos mó teangthach a bheith agad).
Cosúil le cupla Meiriceánach, a shíleas gur chóir do achan duine ar an domhan Béarla a labhairt agus na teangthacha eile ar fad a dh’fhágáilt. Ní cóir ár gcuid ama a chur amú lena leithéid do dhuine... Go mairidh siad san aineolas a bhfuil siad, agus go n-éagaidh siad ann.

I lived in San Diego for about three years. I used to go to a little pub called "The Field" about once a week.

I heard Irish being spoken there by two older gentlemen who turned out to be from Ireland originally and worked for the shipping yards in San Diego. The lady behind the bar said that they show up everyday around the same time and never speak English. Somtimes they strike up chats with toursists, but for the most part they keep to themselves.

Also, while I was in San Diego I went to Balboa Park and sat in on Irish classes held at the House of Ireland.

Bhíodh stuif ar siúil ag Nanny O' Brien's agus i Fadó i Washington D.C. chomh maith le dream chainteoirí i The Four Provinces i bhFalls Church, Virginia.

Chuala mé Ó Cuív ar Blas, Raidió Uladh, aréir ag caint ar an scéim seo ach níor luaigh sé aon rud faoi theach tabhairne. Caithfidh go bhfuil foinse mhaith eolais ag an Aire!

... "Sa Fhrainc, is minic a ghníthear magadh fá na daoiní a bhfuil céim acu i dteangaidh mhionlaigh."

Law Ball i mBÁC roinnt mhaith blianta ó shoin, cailíní as Tír Chonaill agus giorrsach as BÁC ag caint:

L: 'What is it again that you're doing A..., archaeology or something?'

A: 'Celtic Studies'.
L: 'Oh, that's nicccccccce'.

A: 'What are you doing yourself L....?'
L: 'Busniness Law and Finance'.

A: 'Oh, that's niccccccccccce'.

Níor nochtaíodh aon tuairim eile ina dhiaidh sin. D'fhan gach éinne ciúin go dtáinig na fir óga anall chucu arís.
