I was watching "The 100 Most Philosophical Movie Quotes" on television last night and I saw one of my favorites mentioned. In the movie Star Wars Episode I, the Master Jedi tells the little boy "Your focus determines your reality." I wanted to see what this would look like in Irish, however, I am having a little trouble with it. Just looking at it, I can see that you will have to alter this quote a little to translate into Irish. The first problem was the verb "to determine." I think a more concrete verb would be "to create (cruthaigh)." So my first attempt: Cruthaigh fócus do réaltacht. However I wanting to practice my sentence building skills and I ran into a little trouble. :0( I wanted to say something like "It is your focus that creates your reality." But I am not certain how to create the second part of the sentence? Tá sé do fhócas...??? I am assuming I need to dependent and independent clause? But I suck at this sort of thing. Any suggestions? Also would my first attempt be OK? |

Dírigh d'intinn, agus cinnteoidh tú do réaltacht. Is é do dhíriú intinne a chinneann do réaltacht. Go raibh an fórsa leat a mhic! |

No problem with RG Cuan's translation, but since you had some grammar questions about your original version I'll start with that: "Cruthaigh" is the imperative; you need the present tense here which is "cruthaíonn" Cruthaíonn d'fhócas do réaltacht. Your focus creates your reality. And you're on the right track with regard to placing extra emphasis on "d'fhócas", but you need to use the copula ("is") for this instead of "tá": Is é d'fhócas... It is your focus... ...a chruthaíonn do réaltacht. ...which creates your reality. Great! That's your sentence; the rest is just word choice. "Fócas" is what a camera has; I'd go with "díriú intinne" as RG Cuan did. "Cruthaigh" is more like creating something from scratch. My first thought would be "múnlaigh" ("shape"), but of course RG Cuan's "cinn" ("decide") is fine too. Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!
