how do you say 'verbal nouns' in Irish? I've tried to find it on my own, but needless to say my efforts are fruitless. I'm trying to say "I'm studying/learning verbal nouns". |

Verbal nouns > Ainmneacha briathartha. I’m learning (some) verbal nouns > Tá mé ag foghlaim ainmneacha briathartha I’m learning verbal nouns (in general) > tá mé ag foghlaim na n-ainmneacha briathartha I'm studying verbal nouns > tá mé ag staidéar na n-ainmneacha briathartha. Tell me, how is it pronounced at the beginning, a t, ch, a h ? I would try to dig it out in An Teanga Bheo, but it is somewhere is a big holdall bag. I put my Irish books in it to see how heavy they would be to bring on plane. over 100kg... |

Beidh mé ag dul chun Korea ag an ndeireadh an míosa, so chuir mé gach leabhar Gaelach in aon mála mór amháin, ach tá sé ró-mhór agus ró-trom. Nílim in ann a thógáil siad ar chor ar bith. Ní ghlacfaidh siad é ag an aerfortm, mar bhrisfeadh sé cúl an bhagage-handler! |

quote:Tchíthear? Yes, tchíthear is feictear in standard irish, ie. "one sees" quote:Tell me, how is it pronounced at the beginning, a t, ch, a h ? Good question: pronounce as if it were títhear. /ˈt´i(ː)haɾ/ It's an old form, that derives from Old Irish at-chí (he sees). In Munster they also use the same root: cí-. They say "cím" = I see, "cífead" = I’ll see, etc. In Scottish they say chì mi (I'll see), and in Manx, heeym (I'll see). Connemara Irish (and standard irish) are the only Gaelic languages that have lost that root ;-) Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

Brn, you should explore the possibility of sending some books over by airfreight. They could arrive the same day or the next day and would make your life in Korea much better. The price is likely to be around $400 to send that much luggage out. |

Ní bheidh easpa foclóirí ort ar aon chuma. Más gá, is féidir ceist a chur ar na Daltaí anseo nó an cnaipe a bhualadh isteach chuig Acmhainn: www.acmhainn.ie Croch na cinn is tábhachtaí leat, Ó Dónaill, An Foclóir Beag agus ... Go dté tú slán is go dtaga tú slán. |

Josh, I agree. It is too heavy to be practical. My experience abroad is that you need to move light to catch buses and trains etc. Plus it would be insured by DHL etc |

In fact their charging such high fees I think it will make more sense to bring the books that are not on Litriocht.com and buy the rest on line later. Aghhhhhh |
