Does anyone know of a way to get recordings or even live Radio Na Gaeltachta over here in the U.S? I used to listen to it growing up and it helps to hear the living language. It would be great in further studying Gaeilge... any help would be appreciated... thanks niall |

If you have a computer and internet you can go to their site and listen to live stream, or pick a program and listen to that. http://www.rte.ie/rnag/ |

Padraig, I've looked at that site before but where on there do I get the 'live stream' or whatever. I can never seem to find where i'd get that or a podcast or whatever. It should be more easily found on that home page but I guess they dont see it as that important. if you can help that would be great. Im technologically challenged at times. niall |

go to www.rte.ie and from there select radio from the choices near the top of the screen and then from the right of the screen choose Raidio na Gaeltachta in the how to listen section - this may then require a small downloadable file to enable it to play. Oiche mhaith. Peadar |

They seemed to have modified the site...there used to be a button that you simply clicked on and it was live stream. Peadar is correct based on what I saw, you now have to go to rte.ie and follow the instructions. |

Instead of radio you can even watch Irish TV online on www.tg4.tv. ;) Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam.

Or "in addition to radio" even! For what it's worth (i.e. for those using it as a learning method rather than for sheer entertainment) the quality of Irish tends to be quite a bit higher on RnaG than on TG4. Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

These days, RTE has been burying its Irish-language news service layers deep within its website. A few months ago, it was findable but wouldn't be updated for months at a time. The service never quite goes away, it's just made ever more difficult to access. So, I have a single question, asked in all earnestness: Is RTE secretly run by the BBC? |

"the quality of Irish tends to be quite a bit higher on RnaG than on TG4." I've heard this a few times. Is it because of the English words and/or phrases that tend to creep into some of the more light, entertainment shows on TG4? Cula 4, Paisean Faisean etc. |

... tend to creep into ... Níl na cainteoirí sin in ann iad a sheachaint mar nach bhfuil d'acmhainn a gcuid Gaeilge a mhalairt a reic. Is mór an trua é. Ba chuma liom an Tadhg sa mhargadh a cheisteofaí le linn cláir, ach tá cainteoirí maithe thart a d'fhéadfadh na cláracha sin a chur i láthair go scafánta. True for you and more's the pity. |

quote:"the quality of Irish tends to be quite a bit higher on RnaG than on TG4." I've always understood that Raidio na Gaeltachta was set up, initially at least, to serve the interests of the Gaeltacht (although broadcast nationally, it is essentailly a "local" station) Telifis na Gaeilge - note it was not called Teilifis na Gaeltachta - and now renamed TG4 was set up for a broader purpose. Maybe this is why the Irish on RnaG is more vernacular/dialectic/appealing? |

Is maith liom Raidió Fáilte. Bhí mé ag eisteacht leis na Giollaí Deacra ar maidin - bhí siad ar baoth amach, ag gairí leo. Rud amháin áfach nuair atá an teanga go maith ar RF bíonn sé iontach Ultach amach, nuair nach mbíonn sé chomh maith sin bíonn sé iontach Feirsteach ar ndóigh. Tá TÓC ar Blas (BBC) gach oíche ag a seacht thar a bheith maith. |

I wish it was - I've been learning Irish for the past 5 years since the BBC learning zone aired the 'Now you're Talking' irish course.. Their BLAS website is way better than anything RTE have... TG4 has come on leaps and bounds in the last couple years - They have the unenviable task of dragging the Irish language in the cities and into the 21st century... the youngsters have to be catered for, entertained. In my view the revival can't happen without TG4 ... |

Doesn't that take the cake? Perhaps my original comment was too facetious, but I cannot comprehend why the Irish language service is made so thoroughly, deliberately difficult to access when it should be front and center on their website. A link on page one is in order, not something buried three levels down that may or may not even be updated. It's unbelievable. |

Aontaím go hiomlán leat a Dhomhnaill... RTE could be doing so much more to promote Irish. Hopefully they'll catch up soon. |

I just had an interesting exchange of correspondence with a gentleman from RTÉ regarding this issue, and... Good news! Within two weeks or so, expect to see a completely new Nuacht feature front and center on RTE's main page. I suggest to one and all that you send a brief memo to the management thanking them for the service. I get the impression that they don't receive much in the way of thanks (Lord knows I'm all too willing to be critical when things slide), so a pat on the back and a thumbs-up from the public would probably be helpful. |

A Domhnall, maith an Fear agus go raibh maith agat. can u give us the man's name you were talking to and how exactly we would message him. good idea on asking people to message him. Its good that they know people out here are looking at the site and what we want. puts the onus on them to provide the service if it's needed and at least encourages them to do the right thing. great job. slan, niall |

Má tá éinne in ann séirbhís BSkyB ón saitealít Astra a fháil, molaim gleas darbh ainm "Sky Gnome". Is cíneál raidió é agus tá sé so-ghluaiste. Oibríonn sé le "Sky DigiBox", fiú mara íocann tú as cárta. Leis, is féidir Raidió na Gaeltachta, RTÉ Raidío 1, 2FM, Lyric, Newstalk Ireland, BBC Raidió Uladh, BBC Radio na nGael agus BBC Radio Cymru a chloisteáil ar fud an tí. Ní oibríonn sé i Meiricá, ar an droch-uair. |
