Ireland not being on the forefront of cheese when compared to France Italy and Spain, suprised me how good it wasbut is all gone now :( What kinds of cheese are made for export to the USA and what are their attributes? I ask this as this cheese was damm yummy and i like cheese form places that are not on the cheese "map" ie Kerskaval from Bulgaria- Cotija from Mexico. i am a lurker on this site and dabble in Irish and the members here know so damm much stuff andy info woud be great is breá liom cáis! |

Kerrygold exports cheeses to the US. The package gives Irish Dairy Board Inc.,Wilmette,IL 60091 as the packers here and a website www.kerrygold.com. I have bought their cheese in ShopRite, Foodtown and other northeast supermarkets.Right now, I am enjoying their Blarney Castle which they call a smmoth and creamy Gouda style. I'm not familiar with any bleu cheese from Ireland but why not check out the website.? Another source might a gourmet shop which stocks imported cheese. Hope this helps. |

There was an article in Ireland of The Welcomes a few years ago about exactly this subject. Unfortunately, I've long since disposed of that issue. You might try contacting their staff for a back issue... Is minic a bhris beál duine a shrón. Fáilte roimh cheartú, go deo.

Cashel Blue is made by Louis Grubb and his family in County Tipperary. I know it is available in specialist shops in the UK (and widely available in Irish supermarkets). Don't know whether it's available in the States but you could contact them and find out http://www.cashelblue.com/ Kerrygold represent the more industrial scale producers, but there are lots of artisan producers represented by CAIS the Irish Farmhouse Cheesemakers Association. The homepage is below and I'm sure they would be happy to advise what products are available in the US http://www.irishcheese.ie/index.htm |
