Dia daoibh,
I'm Danny, 24 years old, from a region near Vancouver, BC. I'm looking for a quick recap of the classes at Áras Uí Chadhain from those of you who have attended. I found a few posts on the subject in the archives but I still have some questions.
Here's my situation. I've lived and worked in Ireland before and I will be heading back in April or May 2008. I'll be able to stay there for at least one year (Working Holiday Visa), and hopefully longer, depending on whether I can secure a work permit or not. I am a TOTAL BEGINNER. I literally have a cúpla focal and that's it. I've never formally studied the language and all I know is what I've picked up from forums like this and TG4 etc.
An immersion class for beginners really interests me. Ideally 4 weeks in length and outside of the Summer season, if possible. Does anyone know if they still offer such a course? I've just sent off an email to them looking for a brochure or at least a price guide. The only website with details that I can find (
http://www.intercelt.com/level3/level3.php3?ident=1&cat=1) is outdated (2002) but it mentions a "Four week intensive course for non-Irish nationals......All levels are catered for - from absolute beginners to advanced students."
For those who have done the courses, did you stay with a local Irish-speaking family? Is that option available to all adults or just university students? How large are the classes? What sorts of activities are included? I assume Connemara Irish is taught?
Thanks for any info you can provide! ;D
