Was in the RIA yesterday looking to get a copy of all of the Doegen Recordings so that I could put them on the net and cross reference them with the Linguistic Atlas and Survey of Irish Dialects book.

In a wonderful stroke of civil serive anality, I was told I could not have them as there were plans afoot to place them up on the web ("within the next 12 months"). When asked if they could be gotten in parts (I have a portion of Connacht -25 euro same price regardless of files gotten) I was told yes -just not by the same person...

She noted my disapointment, thinking it was the not getting the files. Actually, it was the abyss that confronts the language when confronted with this mindless machine. For a moment I stared into it, and saw nothing but empty blackness.

Measartha gnách é
an duibheas in aibhéisí.
Ná bí ag stánadh.

Blackness is really
quite common in abysses.
Try not to stare, please.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!
