Very quick question regarding the "broad with broad, slender with slender" rule.

In light of that rule, how is the spelling "gaeltacht" explained?

"ae" is the exception to that rule: in that group, the e is broad. That's why you have "Gael" (broad l) and Gaeilge (slender l, you need an i).

Real exception are all compounded words like "bunreacht", but then I am confused why we should write "leithscéal" and not "leathscéal"?
