Mias bheag.

mias [ainmfhocal baininscneach den dara díochlaonadh]
árthach cruinn nach bhfuil domhain agus a gcoinnítear bia nó deoch ann; cúrsa boird (mias oisrí).

Cá bhfuil sibh? Idir an dá linn, seo ceann eile duit, a Aonghuis:

Faoin gceobhrán is faoin mbáisteach
a shiúil Seán an sliabh,
gan hata air ná cochall,
gan scáth fearthainne ná clogad,
agus níor fliuchadh ribe dá chuid gruaige.
Conas sin?

Tomhas Briotánach a gcuiream Gaeilg air (ar an dea-uair, oibreann an rím siocair gur foclaí "cognates" atá ann!):

Caithim rud inteacht thar dhíon an tí,
Nuair a théim fána dhéin, faighim trí.

Cad é atá ann?

Tá cupla cionn eile a d’fhoghlaim mé i mBriotáinis ó bhéal seandaoiní in mo cheantar "dhúchais" (gidh nár rugadh sa cheantar sin mé, rugadh mo mháthair mhór agus an mhuitir roipi ann).

Seo cionn ionta’ deacair:

Dréimire de lá
Bata d’oíche

Cad é ’tá ann?

Tá an tomhas seo do mo chrá, a Lughaidh! Fan go bhfeice mé anois... tá tú cinnte go bhfuil ceann díobh i mo theach, cé nach bhfaca tú mo theach riamh. Agus cé go bhfuil dréimire i mo gharáiste, níl aon dréimire sa teach féin, go bhfios dom, ná aon rud a gcuirfinn "bata" air ach oiread. Agus an "rud" seo atá agam, athraíonn a chruth ag deireadh an lae. Níl a lán rudaí mar sin agam: éadan an chloig, cinnte... ach céard eile?? Agus tá baint éigin aige le héadaí? Curiouser and curiouser, mar a dúirt Eilís i dTír na nIontas! An tomhas é seo, no koan?

Kôan, an focal Seapáinise, atá i gceist agam:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koan

An bhfuil soilsiú (anama nó intinne) i ndán dúinn más féidir linn an réiteach a fháil?

"An seanchas gearr,
an seanchas is fearr."

Ó, a Dhennis, ’bhfuil ’s agat, bhí dearmad déanta agam ar an fhocal ’kôan’ Seapáinise, gidh go rabh sé agam nuair a bhí mé níos óige. Tá súil’s agam go dtiocfaidh soilsiú ort nuair a gheobhas tú ’n réiteach !

A Aonghu(i)s, chan leabaidh atá i gceist ach an oiread, ná éadach leapa.

Aaargh. Tá cruth an dréimire ar iallacha mo chuid bróg de lá is d'oíche. Ní athraíonn sé sin nuair a bhainim díom iad. Cá bhfuil an bata beannaithe sin, in ainm an diabhail?

Bata, sin cruth éille bróige agus í dícheanglaiste... Má leagann tú ar an urlár í ’s í díreach.

Caithfidh gur bróga le crúcaí iallach agus ní le poill atá i gceist. Mar sin ní bhíonn na hiallacha ar dhéanamh dréimire ’s iad dícheanglaiste.
Seantomhas atá ann, a cumadh 100 bliain ó shoin (nó níos mó), agus aige’n am sin cha rabh na brógaí go díreach mar atá siad inniu, b’fhéidir.

Shíl mé nár chaith na Briotánaigh ach sabots ~ botoù-koad céad bliain ó shin!

Cha bhíodh sabots orthu an t-am ar fad. Bhíodh nuair a bhíodh orthu siúl sa chlábar, ach chan nuair a théadh siad ar Aifreann, mar shampla. Sa chás sin, chuireadh siad botoù-lêr orthu (lêr = Gaeilg leathar).
