Lughaidh Bunscoil ó 4-5 go dtí 12 Meánscoil ó 12 - 18 (Ard Teist) Tá scrúdú ag thart ar 15-16 ar a dtugtar an Teastas Soisearach, mar sin bíonn dhá thréimhse san Meánscoil, ach scoil amháin a bhíonn ann. |

"I ndáiríribh? An cailín tusa, nach ea?" No, local politics has meant my 'school' was 3 because been such a rich country, proper schools come way down the list. Further more, when I was there we were separated from girls (all boys class) and were in the 'good' class but had lessons in the technical school which was supposedly for the 'blue collar' chaps, but in the Leaving Cert I don't think the points results were much different between good and bad. In fact I did as much blue collar subjects as one could (woodwork and metal work etc and no science). I was not allowed (actually debarred) by the nun in charge of science from doing it as a subject, yet my MA is in research methodology, so that's the way things are le díol

Adscoil is often used in the title of schools e.g. Ardscoil Ris in Marino Dublin, perhaps pretentiously, but it would still be officially a meanscoil |

"I was not allowed (actually debarred) by the nun in charge of science from doing it as a subject, yet my MA is in research methodology, so that's the way things are" I'm surprised at the wide latitude she enjoyed. Are there no government-mandated minimum requirements for science education? I went to Catholic schools from Kindergarten through graduate school and there's no way they could have gotten away with something so blatant, although the nun who served as "guidance counselor" did do her best to rule you in or out of certain subjects even if you wanted to take them. I wanted to take Algebra 2/Trig during my sophomore year and she refused to let me, saying that I belonged in plain old Algebra II. Nothing would convince her to sign me into the class I wanted, so I meekly accepted her advice and let her sign my schedule for Algebra II only. As soon as I got her signature, I immediately changed it back to what I originally wanted, submitted it, and took the class. Ah, the good old days of low-tech, easily erasable, pen-and-paper recordkeeping. |
