Haigh! I'd like to know if the recordings of TY Irish have been done by native speakers, or at least, by people who pronounce Irish properly (native-like)? Just to know if I can recommend it to a learner... Grma Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

I had the 'pleasure' of having someone play what I think was TYI recordings -the new one. O M G -if it was TYI (lest I am wrong) it was a parody of Irish -lawv for hand, choc for teach and so on. The whole thing had a funny sort of 'attitude' about it, like as if they were smiling and joking when it was been recorded, like Irish was a joke, and so was this easy job we blagged. Unless the guy mixed up CDs and played another one this thing was trash. Even if we ignore the modern urban English speaker pronunciation, a bad sort of tone pervaded it, at least I thought. I have the grammar book to accompany the series, but have not bought the main one and recordings. le díol

Lughaidh, old TYI had excellent Cork blas. New TYI is also not bad - some kind of polished Conamara, I would say. If you give me your email - I could send you a sample dialogue - that you could have an idea. Gaelainn na Mumhan abú!
