...as An Phoblacht:

“Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh () has criticised proposals from the Minister of State with responsibility for integration Conor Lenihan () in which he has called for the removal of Irish language requirements for civil servants.

Ó Snodaigh said that while he agrees with the need to increase the number of foreign nationals (http://tinyurl.com/2o5atg) in the Civil Service this does not have to be at the expense of our own national language...”

How about letting native speakers deal with civil servants only in Irish and leave and Galltacht English as it likes it. The civil service was always British in its history and ethos, so why would it speak a foreign language like Irish? Ó Snodaigh looks like he is retarded; now he's merely proving it

The requirement for Civil servants to have adequate Irish was done away with in the 70s.

But this is the same Conor Lenihan who is refusing to allow a Sikh member of the Garda reserve to wear a turban.

Only two TD'S outdo An t-Aire Ó Cuív when it comes to An Ghaeilge.. Trevor Sargeant & Aengus Ó Snódaigh.

You're comment on his appearance as you see it just shows you're as mature as a 4 year old.

I've heard various things Lenihan has been doing, the need for upskilling foreigners in Ireland in terms of English language training for example. He has yet to mention anything reasonable in relation to An Ghaeilge. An anglophile to be watched i'd say.

In one way he's just undoing the progress made by Ó'Cuív.. That's Fianna Fáil for you... Hanafin is hardly complimenting O'Cuív's good work either.. And i don't hear Trevor or any of the greens who seemed so "ar son na teanga" before election time complaining...

"He has yet to mention anything reasonable in relation to An Ghaeilge."

With that respect, much is to be said about the work of Colleen Dollard:

Many of those from outside the English-speaking world already have more exposure to other language and better language training. It is not unreasonable to make the Irish language available to them.

Much is also to be said about the Welsh approach, simply because it works:

Yes I am -do you find him attractive?

I'm just pointing out that he is playing into the bullshit that Fianna Fáil play. FF are blatantly feckless in government -Ahern lacks 4 people in the whole party who could run a bath. If the opposition cannot crack them, well then its a bad state of affairs.

Tá sé a breathnú ar an nGaeilge mar rud eicínt is féidir leis a ghéilleadh di.
Níor mhaith leat an chulaith Gharda a athrú mar a rinneadh i Sasana, ach gheobhaidh sé réidh leis an gcoinníoll teanga chun daoine a cheansú.

Give and Take mar a deirtear i mBéarla.

Is smaoineamh ana-chliste é chun eachtrannaigh a mhealladh isteach sna státseirbhísí, agus tá gá chun ruaig a chur ar na hamadáin atá ins na státseirbhísí, dar liom. Ní raibh muid in ann déileáil leob as Gaeilge roimhe seo agus ní bheimis tar éis. Níl aon athrú ann.

Tá cearta againn le 4 bliain - is athrú dearfach sin. Tá sé mar cheart againn déileáil le Garda trí ghaeilge na laethanta seo.

Tá na ceart úd againn ó 1937...

Níor chum a tAcht ceart ar bith. Rinne sé soiléiriú ar chearta a bhí ann cheana, agus leag síos cur chuige ciallmhar chun iad a chinntiú.

Agus tá na Gardaí ar fad ag foghlaim Gaeilge mar chuid dá oiliúint.

Tá aithne mhaith agam ar Gharda, is tuairim dá laghad aige faoin Ghaeilge

An deacracht atá ann ná an deacracht chéanna atá ag gach aoinne. Deis í a chleachtadh.

Bíonn Gaeilge mar cuid dá oilíunt, ach muna mbíonn orthu feidhm a bhaint as....

quote:

Bíonn moltaí ar an gcaoi a d'fhéadfadh An Garda Síochána úsáid na Gaeilge a fheabhsú i gcónaí á lorg faoin Tionscnamh Seirbhís den Scoth trí Ghaeilge.
