Hi, I need help in translating this clause from the book Caisleáin Óir:

...an mhaidin a chuaigh sé lena mháthair ar ghreim láimhe go teach na scoile ní aithneodh súil dá deachaigh i gcloiginn nach puirtleog ghirsí a bhí ann.
