There are several references on line to "Falmouth (Fullie) Kearney" as an ancestor to candidate Obama. I have never encountered such a first name among the Irish. Does anyone have any comment on this name?

Never came across it...

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

Only reference I found was to a town on Cape Cod, Mass. Might be Anglo-Irish family name. McLysaght does not list it among Irish surnames.

The surname (Kearney) is Irish.
Falmouth is a given name; and its a town in England.
Probably a corruption of some Irish name, but damned if I know what name.

A mangling of the name Felimy perhaps?

Falmouth was the name of a bad guy in a thriller I loved as a teenager (Chameleon, by William Diehl). The character was Irish, by the way.

Anyway... that's all I got.
