Reading the Erris dialect book, I came accross odd arrangments: (do) hardaigheadh é [ha:rdi:f e:]. Is this an Erris replacement of [x] as when chuaidh -->fua? ALso, níor hinnsíodh [N'i:r hinsi:f]. Odd response verbal forms?

Also: (for deir) d'abraíoch sé [dabri:d se:] or d'abraíof [dabri:f] when no p. pronoun there (in the imperfect). Its there agin in the relative too (a d'abraíof), and in realtive of the conditional (a d'abróf).

apperas too for fág.

Past subjunctive: [m'i:f] for mbíodh. Imperfect is bhíof [v'i:f]


It looks like broad f sporadically remplaced x in in infal as well as inital position in difference flexive conditions

[f] here is a voiceless realization of underlying [w]

Ah, I see. I thought that for some ending in mh, like snámh, but did not know why elsewhere. I forgot that Erris was influeced by settlers from Donegal, so they would have ú/bh at endings and here was devoiced. Such devoicing is a noticible part of all Mayo, as well as worn off ends
