A month or so ago we had a riddle by Aonghus where there answer was "tonn briste" breaking wave. I was just poking around in Ó Dónáill's Foclóir Gaeilge Béarla and found this:
Bráithre bána - white-crested waves. Does that mean "white brothers?" Would these be the same waves that are also called "cows (cattle) without any bones" and those galloping horses or are these those white-crested waves that are way out in the ocean?
P.S. Bráithre bána also means "grubs of bees." Go figure.

I'd say the brother-ness refers to objects being clustered together.

Bráithre often means "Friars" rather than Brothers, and it's another image.
