Does anyone know about the story or additional verses for this Labhrás Ó Cadhla sean nos song? English song title might be "The Dawn."
I have found a recording of only one verse on a CD from a Swedish traditional ensemble from Finland, and I'd like to learn more verses. Unfortunately, it is not on the RTE recording of Labhrás Ó Cadhla. Here's the only version that I have. Please pardon the missing fadas.
Do shuios-sa sios go sciosmhar atuirseach Gan aon fhonn casadh orm go fainne an lae, Fi shail an toir draighni bhi fillet calcaithe, Is gan de chludah leapan im ghar ach e- Go bhfacaios-sa lem thaoibh an ri-bhean mhaisuil A chealg mo chroi le saigheadai daingeanna; Ba dh'i an ainnir thar t'r i ar cloiodh an dragan lei Is d'fhuig na milte marbh le gra da sceimh.
If the above verse sounds at all familiar, I would appreciate any help you could give me to point me in the right direction. The recording of the song is hauntingly beautiful. I'm just starting a Conradh na Gaeilge course this year.
Thanks, that's a good guess. I have Muireann's albums, but she recorded a different song. I will see Muireann the last week in June. If I sing the verse for her, maybe she might recognizes the verse.
Otherwise... Does anyone know if there are any sean nos resources in Wexford? A library with an archive or a person I could visit and record? (Just amatuer digital stuff.) Please recommend details. I leave for Shannon on June 20.
