Right who speaks Irish? People who do speak the language at least on a frequent basis - including the education system. I include the education system as well... there's not many places for some people to speak the language outside of it,even if they wished

So what groups speak it?

Teachers - (Gaeltacht, Galltacht)
Irish Language students - (3 levels, gael&gall)
Muintir na Gaeltachta
Daoine eile

Anyone fancy helping with this lil project and care to throw a few figures at it? Any other groups that should be included?

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

I speak Irish with Daltaí people, I produce some writing in Irish (limited by my abilities not lack of audience) as well as with friends, family, and co-workers (whom I teach). Not too shabby considering I don't live in Ireland...when I was there I was able to find (or make) many more opportunities.
